DAY 48 SNOWDON 1080m above sea level.

Today we drove to Snowdonia to go up on the train to Mt Snowdon.  This is the largest Mountain in England and Wales.  After a nice drive we arrived in a busy little town at the edge of a Lake.  The queues were already big to get onto the train so fortunately Eilian had prebooked our tickets.

We soon found out why there were queues as the tickets gave us a door number but once there it was first in first served.  So the first obviously grabbed the sides with the best views.  To put it mildly it was a squash and if our boys had been fully grown it would have been impossible for us all to fit in!  The views were amazing, unfortunately at 5 & 7 it is not really appreciated!  It was an hours journey to the top and an hour back down with half an hour at the top.

It was a miracle as we had a beautifully clear and sunny day which is unbelievable for Wales!  Many people walked to the top taking anywhere between 2 and 4 hours each way depending on your fitness level and the track that you choose to take.  With time tight and our boys still young we did the train which was an experience in itself.  However, I will admit that once we walked up the 15 metres from the station to the summit and experienced the beautiful vistas the levels of satisfaction was much reduced in comparison to if we had walked it.  The trip down was hard work as the boys were hemmed in and bored!  Oh dear!

After a soccer match at the bottom and a quick walk to the lake we were off on a long drive back to Pontardullais and Janettes.  It was a beautiful drive with varied countryside ranging from old slate mines, mountainous farm land, beautiful country lanes and cobbled villages, plus a big spew right through the car care of Luke Jones.

We were much relieved to reach home!
