Day 85 Sea Fortress Suomenlinna

We left Espoo and caught the Bus to the city, we wondered through the city and came to a market close to the ferry terminal. At the ferry terminal we caught the ferry to the sea fortress of Suomenlinna.

Founded on islands off the coast of Helsinki in 1748 the sea fortress is a part of the unesco world heritage site. It's construction began in the 1700s when Finland was a part of Sweden. The guns that face west on the ramparts are a reminder of Russian rule. It has 6 islands and still has 800 inhabitants.

The boys and Pihla had a great time exploring the ramparts, cannons and tunnels.

We then got back to Helsinki and were caught by contenders of Hells Kitchen and we had to taste three canapés from each team. Delicious authentic food from Finland which included salmon, reindeer, blueberries etc.

Anna was then meeting up with her other sister Sanna and her daughter Sophie.
 Sanna and Sohvi.
